Objectives

The D-ploy project team aims to understand why industrial polygeneration projects in selected European industrial sectors have been few and far between over the past few years. The team comprises both industry consultants and major industrial operators of co/polygeneration plants and is directed both to policymakers and industry stakeholders. By looking at the technologies used in 4 sectors (food, pulp and paper, refineries and chemical sectors) and the drivers for projects, the D-ploy project will determine whether the dearth of new projects is due to 1/a lack of technical potential; 2/poor project economics; 3/ adverse financial appraisal; or 4/ policy barriers. The project team will then propose policy recommendations to help regenerate the prospects of large-scale industrial polygeneration projects in European industry, to the benefit of firms’ competitiveness, increased European security of supply, and global reductions of greenhouse gas emissions.

Structure of work

D-ploy will be structured in Work Packages, with the key activities taking place in Work Packages 2 to 5.

Work Package 2:                  Industrial heat loads and polygeneration applications

Work Package 3:                  Polygeneration in the Internal Energy Market

Work Package 4:                  Economics of polygeneration and financial appraisal

Work Package 5:                  Polygeneration and the ETS

A separate Work Package will deal with the dissemination of the project results
